Description
Fintown, County Donegal, Ireland
Seated under the mountains of ‘Aghla’ on the shore of ‘Lough Finn’ is this small Irish speaking (Gaeltacht) hamlet of ‘Fintown’. Named after a mythological woman ‘Finngeal’ who drowned in the lake after attempting to save her wounded brother ‘Feargamhain’. Fintown has a small operational narrow gauge railway that still runs today for 3 miles on the banks of this lake. Due to this surrounding scenery it’s one of the most breathtaking train rides in all Ireland!
Some claim that this lake area & hamlet of Fintown are very similar with scenery you would normally find in the fjords of Norway. Having visited ‘Lough Finn‘ many times & now finally seeing it from this aerial perspective I also have to agree. This long lake running under these snow-capped mountains & small hamlet along the shore surrounded with pine trees, all have the characteristics of a Norwegian landscape.
Since Donegal now has similar landscape, weather & even the Northern Lights! are there really any other reasons left to actually visit Norway?
