Description
Ards Forest Park, Creeslough, Sheephaven Bay, County Donegal, Ireland
Sheltered on the tip of Ards Forest Park between 2 headlands can be found this little hidden sandy cove, locally known as ‘The Lucky Shell Beach’. It has gained its name due to the variety & abundance of beautiful sea shells that can be found scattered around there. Whilst here you can find your own lucky charm. Simply take a small shell that catches your eye & keep it on you to gain good luck!
This illusive beach has been on my radar for some time now. I actually visited this forest 3 times in attempt to capture this photo but each time I photographed the wrong beaches! There are 3 beaches in total on this headland. On each of my first 2 visits I mistakenly captured the wrong ones! It was only when I reached home that I realised my errors, so I returned a few days later for my 3rd attempt. It’s only a pity I hadn’t one of those lucky shells on me during my first visit ?
What I find so attractive about this cove is how it is actually a forest that rolls onto a beach unlike other beaches which have very few trees growing nearby. Could you imagine what it would have been like for early settlers who travelled through this dense forest to be greeted at the end of their adventure by one of the most stunning looking beaches in Ireland!
