Magheroarty Beach, Ballyness Bay, County Donegal , Ireland
Over many years of viewing Magheroarty Beach from the mainland, never did I realise that it was actually shaped like a giant ship anchor on the furthest end ⚓️ At first review of my captures, I believed it to be heavy lens distortion due to the nature of panoramic photographs (which this photo does have to a certain extent) But I truly realised how oddly shaped this beach was when I flew over it from the ocean side looking inwards to mainland! Not many beaches in Ireland have 3 sandy shores facing North, East & West. Almost 360 degrees of sandy shore on one beach is certainly a great thing in my book & im sure nobody can argue with that ?
Magheroarty is placed perfectly, so that on the left is the Atlantic Ocean & on the right is Ballyness Bay. Ballyness is an area of outstanding natural beauty created by many rivers leading out to sea. This estuary holds some of the strongest turquoise coloured waters found throughout Ireland. It’s waters are as clear as glass due to the purity of the fresh water rivers which run into this bay daily.
