Friend of the sea or Bád Eddie or Eddie’s boat are the names given to the old wreck at Magherclogher beach, Bunbeg Donegal. Cara Na Mara (‘Friend of the Sea’) is the official title of the abandoned fishing vessel ran into trouble during stormy seas in the early 1970s. The remains of the boat are deteriorating rapidly, specially since June 2009 when the alleged “worst storm in living memory” hit the area. One half of the boat is almost gone. I’m glad to have seen Bád Eddie before the sea claims his friend for itself.
