Description
Ballyness Bay, Falcarragh onlooking Tory Island, County Donegal, Ireland
One of my most memorable captures in recent years. This photo was captured from ‘Ballyness Harbour’ looking offshore to ‘Tory Island’. I focused on this stretch of sand bank between the harbour & Tory island, then within moments this gentleman came leisurely strolling across the beach & straight into my frame. A flock of sea birds also passed at the exact time in a V formation. I could hardly believe my luck It felt like a one in a million chance because he was the only person on this beach at the time!
This image was captured at a 600mm zoomed in focal range, enabling the perception of the background to be brought forward much closer & larger (lens compression) for example in this scene the gentleman is 0.5 mile away & Tory Island is 8.5 miles away! This is the reason I love my super zoom lens as compositions like this are impossible by any other means. If I can’t reach the location, then I can “reel in” the location to me
