Description
Gweedore, County Donegal, Ireland
There are many places across our island to view Atlantic storms from but nowhere matches the Donegal coast in my book! High vantage points along this coast make for some great ‘out to sea’ perspectives. I often capture photos of these stunning little cottages on my journeys around Gweedore. What I wouldn’t give to be sitting inside it right now with a big turf fire & a wee drop of something strong to keep me warm listening to stormy winds whistling through that thatched roof & rattling the half door of its hinges
This view overlooks ‘Inishsirrer Island’ as seen in the background just under a mile off coast. This small settlement of Inishsirrer was once a thriving fishing community. Today this little island is sadly uninhabited. All that remains is this little “Ghost Town” with its abandoned cottages, shops, dry stone walls & small harbour. All echoing its once bustling past across the waves for anyone with the imagination to hear once again….
