Description
Roundstone, Connemara, County Galway, Ireland
Lying back-to-back, Dog’s and Gurteen Bay are two of the most beautiful beaches found on Ireland’s western shore. On the left can be seen the horseshoe beach of Dog’s Bay which backs onto Gurteen Bay on the right. Both merely separated by a narrow strip of marram grass dune which leads out to a smaller 3rd beach in front named An Tra Garbh or Trá na Feadóige.
The sand on each of these beaches is not comprised of traditional limestone like other beaches. Instead, it is made entirely from fragments of crushed seashells . This is what makes the sand here pure white in colour, which seems to shimmer in the sunlight like millions of tiny pearls
