Gap of Mamore overlooking Lenan & Dunaff, Clonmany, Inishowen, County Donegal, Ireland
My father used to take us here as children and we would all look down over these lush fields below. He would tell us that these were the very fields that gave Ireland it’s signature slogan “forty shades of green”. I love this story today as much as I did when hearing it as a child and nowadays visit this very spot to tell my own boys the very same tale.
I recently travelled to this viewing area as fast as I could, in an attempt to capture a photo to show everyone the various “40 shades of green” fields. However, due to me stopping for another sneaky photo in between
I left myself so late that I actually arrived after the daylight had gone.
I won’t complain though, as the sky suddenly illuminated before me so intensely that it even reflected off the surrounding purple heather petals. I planned and set off in an attempt to capture a photo showing the forty shades of green fields and just when I thought I had failed…. nature “saves the day” and supplied me with forty shades of violet as a bonus
