Killeter Forest, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland
Whilst scouting about these amazing rural woods I came across a beautiful almost magical area with dew drops on every tree branch and large Amanita muscaria (fly agaric) mushrooms all over the forest floor between a carpet of amazingly thick green moss! These are the ones known as “Fairytale Mushrooms” from childrens books & Super Mario!
I lay on my chest to zoom the lens in closer at this particular mushroom. Suddenly I realised this amazing “black widow” looking spider praying upside down on its web under the mushrooms fins. There was also a slug on top & several little flies had landed to eat between times! It made me think that these fungi actually have their own little ecosystem that many small creatures greatly rely on to hunt, eat, shelter & survive off.
We are continually panicking about our own major climates, infrastructures & systems but most people never actually acknowledge or appreciate all those little fragile worlds that are sometimes difficult to see below us…..
