Description
This little mysterious ruined village of “Glentornan” consists of around 10 homes. It is nestled on the shore of Dunlewey Lough in the shadow of the majestic Mount Errigal. Hidden away between a few trees from virtually everyone & everything. I’ve passed this location hundreds of times over my lifespan, yet never heard a single thing about this little hamlet nor even knew it existed until I discovered it by error whilst searching for another nearby area.
I’ve said it before & I will say it again, “You Don’t Get Lost in Ireland…. You Discover”
Through some research I’ve learned that around 50 people on average lived in this small village between 1841 to 1911 when it was mysteriously left almost totally abandoned! Afterwards I believe a few folk may have returned here & remained until the 1960’s. Why anyone would ever leave somewhere as stunning as “Glentornan Village” is a total mystery to me? But I’m sure those poor souls had very good reasons to leave…..
