‘Lough Salt Aurora’

A few nights ago I joined the rest of the planet and went on an Aurora hunt. The science news channels were predicting a large solar flare to strike and cause a large charge of Northern Lights across our atmosphere so strong we would even possibly see it from Ireland….. well oh my were the stats right on Friday night! Never in my life have I witnessed anything so intensely beautiful. It was clear to see these red and green pillars dancing across the sky before my naked eyes   In the background can be seen Muckish Mountain, Sheephaven Bay & Downings to the right

I captured this photo and could not believe how vibrant the reflections where on the surface of Lough Greenan below. It turns out that this was the largest magnetic storm to strike in 22 years and this photo was captured during its maximum intensity which lasted around an hour. I’m delighted to have put in the effort and travelled to Lough Salt that night as i’ll never forget this moment 🙏
