Looking over Lough Salt & Lough Greenan, County Donegal, Ireland
I will never forget this very humid summer evening in which I basically ran up a mountain in sheer determination for 1 photo! Looking back, it wasn’t my greatest idea to attempt this shot with mere minutes to spare for error 😂 On arrival at its base, time was seriously against me so I never even took time to sort my key lenses etc to lighten the load. I just grabbed all my heavy gear, forgetting my hike boots & water! 🤦♂️ As fast as possible I rushed to the top in my clean white trainers in time for sunset.
Finally reaching the peak before the sun hit the horizon was great. Although I was totally exhausted & literally stumbling about panting for water. Forced to take my t shirt off to cool down but I soon became a banquet for millions of midges & flies! My white trainers where now brown & soaked through! 😱 Not the greatest experience of hiking although this view & my sense of accomplishment at the top was 🥳
As you can see, I was greeted with some of the finest views in the country for miles all round, Muckish & the Derryveagh Mountains can be seen in the distance. It was an exhausting unplanned panic to the top but looking back id do the same all over again if it meant me getting a great photograph. Exhaustion lasts only a day, but a photo last’s forever…. so I’ve no regrets 🙌
