Description
Inishowen, County Donegal, Ireland
This amazing road runs for miles up a very steep mountainside & straight through an ancient pass named Mamore gap. From the top looking northwards are spectacular views of Lough Swilly and the Fanad peninsula, Urris and North Inishowen all along the Wild Atlantic Way. By far Mamore Gap is easily one of the most spectacular views to be found throughout all Ireland
In the centre of Mamore Gap, as faintly seen below (Rectangular space) is a holy well named “St. Eigne’s Well” which is a place where for centuries people have made pilgrimages. People even today travel from all over Ireland to this religious place, some to visit & take in the stunning views but most on modern pilgrimage, just like many generations before us have done for hundreds of years.
On my way up to this mountain pass I passed an elderly gentleman walking on his bare feet in deep prayer towards this Holy well. Its great to see prayer & Pilgrimages still being carried out here at Mamore Gap & in many other religious places throughout Ireland. Regardless of modern day distractions etc, we proudly remain an island of great faith….
