Description
Magheraclogher Strand, Bunbeg, Gweedore, County Donegal, Ireland
‘Cara Na Mara’ (Friend of the sea) or ‘Bád Eddie’ are the names given to this old wreck resting on Magheraclogher Beach along Donegal’s Wild Atlantic Way. The ‘Cara Na Mara’ fishing vessel ran into trouble during stormy seas in the early 1970s. The remains of the boat are deteriorating rapidly, especially since June 2009 when the alleged “worst storm in living memory” hit the area. Sadly now one half of the boat is almost gone completely. Her days are now numbered as she is in really poor condition & it’s only a matter of months before it is broken up & taken by the sea forever….
This has to be one of the most complicated photos to capture I’ve ever attempted to date. Having this vision for ages & through my astro app I calculated that the moon was due set behind the ‘Bad Eddie’ boat a few nights ago. I arrived & set up my 200mm lens in total darkness then started to dial in the possible correct settings. The moon was setting so fast I had mere minutes to capture this single shot. Changing the settings/angle of the lens as fast & often as possible, staring through my viewfinder I could only see the moon & nothing else. I finally got this one useable photo that I can proudly show you here today
