Description
Muckish, Derryveagh Range, County Donegal, Ireland
Muckish meaning “the pig’s back” is a very distinctive flat-topped mountain. It is part of the Derryveagh Mountain range which runs along the north west of Donegal. Easily visible up to 50 miles away or more it is one of Ireland’s most iconic mountains
Our ancients believed that Muckish was really a magical mountain & it was actually a giant sleeping pig, who was the “God of light” hence the name “pig’s back”. Some say that it goes right through the earth and comes out in Australia at another mystical place called Uluru. Personally I don’t know if it holds any actual magical powers but it certainly has a magical look & feel to it anytime i’ve ever passed it!
