Description
Classiebawn Castle, Mullaghmore, County Sligo, Ireland
I often capture photographs from Mullaghmore during sunsets although, witnessing a sunrise here whilst gazing across the Atlantic waves onto Classiebawn Castle & Benbulben mountain is a special experience. Maybe it’s how the morning’s first light flows over the Dartry mountains in the east and illuminates the actual front of this castle and not the rear like sunset light would. It may be just me, but even the sea spray seems lighter and fresher in early mornings along our coast. There’s just something about how early morning light passes through ocean mist, casting a golden glow upon all it touches. Nature has no voice to say “Good morning” however, without speaking a word she sure knows how to show you instead…. “She’s quite the artist”
If you travel the length & breadth of Ireland, you will find no other castle or building that rivals the almost fairy-tale like scene of Classiebawn. Classiebawn Castle is a Baronial style country house built in 1874. Nowadays the surrounding 7000-acre estate is mainly used as grazing pastures.
Seated perfectly on a hilltop overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and nestled in the shadow Benbulben, one of Ireland’s most iconic mountains. The initial architects and builders sure nailed the perfect spot to build a stunning castle that would mesmerise onlookers for centuries afterwards
