Description
Ballyness Bay, Falcarragh overlooking Magheroarty Sand Dunes with ‘Tory Island’ in the far distance, County Donegal, Ireland
On the final stretch of road to ‘Ballyness Bay’ can be found this scene which overlooks many islands & strands along Donegal’s northern shore. Ireland has many stunning roads & viewpoints but there’s something special about the road to ‘Ballyness Bay’ that strikes excitement in me during approach. It’s possibly because there’s so many locations, details & views that can be observed from one small area. There’s always a sea breeze here which carries the most memorable sounds & smells, especially on warm summer days.
What always amazes me is the fact that ‘Tory Island’ (furthest seen on horizon) is 9 miles away from where this photo was captured, yet along this coast it only looks a couple mile or so off. The island between to the left is ‘Inishdooey’. The sand dunes on the left are ‘Magheroarty Strand’ & the dunes to the right are ‘Ballyness Strand’.
