This image was captured from a high & extremely narrow headland, known as the ‘Sturrall Ridge’. Located in a very rural corner of west Donegal. A very tough location to reach due to the weight of all my gear, plus it was the warmest day of the year! Although it was well worth the effort on arrival.
Unique in every way imaginable these sea cliffs are totally mesmerising in sheer size. They completely surround & hide what I like to imagine as a “Secret Cove”. This shallow water cove has small white shoal areas of ‘micro beaches’ tucked in snugly against this cliff face. There is even a sea arch standing on the small island in the shallows. What I love most about this Cove is the fact that it is impossible to reach on foot. The only way is by abseiling down that cliff face by rope or travelling by boat! You can hold onto that rope & good luck on your decent ? as I know for certain which way I’d prefer to reach it ?♂️?
In the backdrop you can see ‘Glen Head’. This enormous cliff face is like something pulled straight from a fairy tale book. Standing on top you can see the Napoleonic lookout tower in the style of a medieval castle proudly watching over the eternal abyss of Ireland’s Atlantic Ocean…..
