Description
County Donegal, Ireland
From a distance I patiently observed this flock of sheep roaming through their natural peat bogland. Suddenly as if commanded, they all arranged into a neat single line and started to troop their way downward along paths carved through this carpet of purple heather in full bloom
Watching them was fascinating because they seem to act as a patrol following their captain on the forefront. They all paced in perfect uniform through the purple heather, almost as fluid as a gentle flowing stream.
Sheep are the true guardians of these natural habitats, grazing only enough allowing the plants to fully recover and carefully pacing along narrow paths carved by generations before them. We should all “take a page from their book” and also respect their habitat when hiking through our landscapes
