Description
Trá Mór Beach, Horn Head Peninsula, Dunfanaghy, County Donegal, Ireland
What I love almost as much as strolling this white sandy beach is the actual walk to reach it. Starting off through a little woodland you follow a winding path until greeted with a vast plain of grassy floral sand dunes (Lurgabrack Dunes) which stretch for miles.
These dunes create a unique habitat for native Irish wildflowers. There are countless colours and species of flowers here all in full bloom which carpet these giant dunes and roll off onto the beach. It’s almost like someone poured a giant pot of multicoloured paint over them and let it run freely into the Atlantic
With so many bird, butterfly & bee species every few yards, it’s great to see this place brimming with our native wildlife. I often wander these dunes for hours, yet the passing of time here feels like mere minutes….
