Description

Tory Island, County Donegal, Ireland

Whilst standing here overlooking this magnificent thin ridge known as Tor Mor Ridge (An Eochair Mhór) also nicknamed ‘The Big Key’, you can clearly see why it gets the name of the Big Key. This long rocky ridge spur literally looks like the jagged edge of a door key
The large rock at the very end is named ‘An Tor Mór’ meaning ‘The High Tower’ after the legend that a giant named Balor once trapped another giant named Ethlinn in a tower on the end of this ridge.

Standing here on an Irish island 9 miles out to sea feels like being on lands’ end of the world. It is surreal to look north and know that the next stop is Iceland! ????
