Description

Craigavon Bridge, River Foyle, Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland

Craigavon Bridge is one of only a few double-decker road bridges in Europe. It was named after Lord Craigavon, the first Prime Minister of Northern Ireland. The bridge began construction in the late 1920s and was finished in 1933. The lower deck of the bridge originally carried a railway line for freight wagons, but this was replaced by a road in 1968.

I’ve been wanting to capture the Christmas lights on this stunning bridge for a few years now. The problem was I needed the river to be as calm and still as a bottle. Unfortunately each visit was a failure 🙁 However as you can see, this was not the situation a few nights ago! The water was fast flowing so I waited around for 4 hrs until the water calmed and I finally got my photo with the bridge reflecting perfectly just the way I visioned it. I wasn’t giving up this time again! lol
