Description
Mullaghmore, County Sligo, Ireland
This is a scene Ive been itching to capture for ages! For conditions to suit, I needed Benbulben mountain to be snow-capped with no clouds covering its peak & decent light was also necessary. This opportunity only became available for a couple of days out of the entire year! So wasting no time I arrived in Mullaghmore & captured my photo before all changed again. To create this effect that makes Benbulben & the clouds look larger/closer, I used a 600mm lens to pull the background forward. Also known as lens compression ?
If you travel the length & breadth of Ireland, you will find no other castle or building that rivals the almost fairy-tale scene of ‘Classiebawn Castle’ in Sligo. Seated perfectly on a hilltop on the edge of Sligo’s Wild Atlantic Way overlooking the ocean, whilst nestled in the shadow of Ireland’s most iconic table top mountain Benbulbin. The initial architects & builders sure nailed the perfect spot to build a stunning castle that would mesmerise onlookers for centuries afterwards.
