Description
Rosbeg, County Donegal, Ireland
We all know that Donegal is one of the very few places where you can arrive at a beach, see no other people for hours and have it all to yourself….. However! Donegal is also one of the few places where cows decide they are bored of grazing on our 40 shades of green grass and decide to hit the beach instead for a family day out
To plan a day alone on an obscure Irish beach but on arrival be greeted with a full family of cows is just magical to witness. The father bull with possibly several mum cows and all their calves simply strolling and laying down on the warm sand, just loving coastal life. One of the most memorable trips I’ve had to the beach for sure.
I have researched on why cows love visiting the beach and there are several key benefits to be gained. To rid themselves of ticks and clean their hides by rolling in the sand. Walking through sand and sea water also cleans all debris from their hoofs. They also lick salt from the sand as a top-up mineral requirement to their diets. However, I believe the main reason is the very same as ourselves…. Who doesn’t love a nice warm day at the beach chilling out with loved ones?
