Kinbane Castle is was built in 1547 and is in an exceptional location surrounded by the North Atlantic sea, The castle was constructed on a limestone headland which protrudes out from below the overlying basalt cliffs, the headland has a sea cave passing through the centre directly under the castle.
I have always found Kinbane to be a magical and haunting location where you can almost feel the past, especially as evening fall and the cliffs darken, I have many times felt a sense of foreboding as if someone was watching from the cliff tops. This location is soaked in history and myths and legends such as “The Children of Lir” where 4 children were turned into swans by their jealous stepmother and remained as swans for 300 years swimming around this very castle where they once lived in!
