Description

Camus Railway Bridge, River Mourne, Strabane, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland

This stunning old rusty railway bridge was constructed on 1911. It was part of the “Great Northern Railway” line (GNR) that was established throughout Ireland in 1883. This old bridge was once a major part of the Industrial Era that has since long gone. Sadly after 75 years of service the “Great Northern Railway” shut down operations in 1966

Irish landscapes are my passion, although I always find myself hiking straight through them towards old abandoned houses & rusty bridges etc. There’s just something about abandonment & natural decay that draws me to include these structures into my scenes. I believe that these areas were stunning looking long before man built on them. Years later they were swiftly abandoned by us so nature slowly moves in & does her job once again. It does take ages for mother nature to reclaim her lands but it’s this in between time when plants, wildlife & rust have taken hold, that I believe man-made structures look most appealing.

Nature always attempts to blend with mankind’s buildings, so I’m happy that we have finally taken a leaf from this book & are now constructing our future buildings to blend in whilst minimising our footprint on the land that we are mere guests on.
