Description
Kinnagoe Bay, Inishowen Peninsula, County Donegal, Ireland
Kinnagoe Bay is an extremely secluded beach on Ireland’s northern tip. Locally famous for being the location of the wreck of the Spanish Armada ship ‘La Trinidad Valencera’ which sank off this very cove on 16th September 1588. To this day pieces of this Spanish galleon and treasure can be found amongst these ancient sculptured rocks and golden sands
In my mind Kinnagoe is not unlike a beach straight from Thailand or New Zealand. Normally cliff slopes across Ireland are barren and rocky but this is where Kinnagoe stands unique. I think it’s the way on how this beach is carved tightly into the base of these steep rocky slopes, but mainly it’s how they are carpeted in dense lush fern, bushes and trees. So dense that there’s barely a gap between them for a person to stand. With only one entrance and exit to this secluded bay via a small snaking road, Kinagoe is a true hidden gem amongst the wilderness of north Inishowen
