Description
Dunlewey, County Donegal, Ireland
The ‘Church of the Sacret Heart’ is one of Donegal’s if not Ireland’s most perfectly situated buildings. It was built in 1877 on top of a small hill on the shore of Dunlewey Lough. Nestled so close to the foot of ‘Mount Errigal‘ that it could almost hide in its shadow. It commands views in the distance over the The Poisoned Glen & Crockfadda mountains.
If you look at these giant rocky mountains in the background named ‘Crockfadda & Cnoc Bheallach Gaoithe’ your eyes may convince you that they are near? In fact these mountains are actually located across a long lake & valley over 4.5 miles away. This photo was captured 1 mile off this church & 4.5 miles away from those mountains using a very powerful telephoto (zoom) lens! I love experimenting with this lens as it draws distant objects so much closer making them appear larger, thus creating a scene that is completely impossible to see any other way.
I believe that little optical illusions like these are great for the mind as it makes us think deeply… in a positive way of course ?
