Description
Muckross Head Peninsula, Kilcar, County Donegal, Ireland
It’s headlands & coastlines like this which give meaning to the name ‘Wild Atlantic Way’. Rightfully fitting as the waves formed here can be furious with raw power! I admire on how the local folk here, build their homes facing directly out to sea, facing the elements head on.
If you look closely, you will see that every patch of available fertile land between the bracken grass is dry stone walled off & used for sheep grazing. On the water’s edge is this little hamlet’s community harbour, which they use for fishing using their small wooden fishing boats.
Its wonderful to witness & realise that even though these homes nowadays may have modern styling, internet & new cars etc just like the rest of the modern world, that they still embrace the old traditional ways of farming & fishing as taught to them by their elders. It’s a traditional/modern way of living which I love observing
