Crohy Head, Maghery, County Donegal, Ireland
On my travels around Crohy Head I came across this stunning little traditional cottage. As you can see it’s completely untouched over the past 100 years at least. There is no running water, electricity or any modern appliances whatsoever & the best part is, that someone actually lives in this little thatched cottage! I’ve heard folk speak about a lone gentleman who emigrated here years ago from Scotland to escape the modern world & now permanently lives here. I knocked his front door hoping to get a yarn with him, but sadly nobody seemed to be home.
Just imagine waking each morning on this stunning unchanged shore to the sound of crashing waves & singing sea birds. Far away from “The rat race” or “Keeping up with the Joneses”. Now that is truly worth escaping from.
Some folk may believe he has lost his marbles or that it would be unbearable to live a solitary life with no modern services that we all seem to rely on to survive. However the simple life may just be a better one for us all? He has my utmost respect & certainly has the right outlook on life. Not only did he move to a new country but it seems like he almost wanted to travel back in time & relive a life similar to the days he was most happiest in…..
