Description
Inis Oírr Island or Inisheer, Aran Islands, Ireland County Galway
The very moment I stepped off the boat I knew that “Inisheer” was going to be a magical island. I’ve been all over Ireland & this has to be one of the best preserved areas I’ve yet came across. It still has the traditional dry stone walls around every single field and a lot of the cottages remain the same as everything looked hundreds of years ago! The most amazing thing is that all the islanders still speak the Irish language of Gaelic
I travelled all over the island by horse & cart. After viewing all the local tourist attractions I was on route to view O’Brien’s Castle but from a distance I could see it swamped with tourists. Instead I decided to wander the narrow lanes around the foot of the castle & discovered this stunning little cottage tucked in behind a few fields almost completely out of sight. I then decided to photograph this simple unknown cottage instead of the famous castle everyone else was travelling towards. I’m pleased now I done so as it’s not only the obvious attractions that make Inisheer so beautiful, it’s the all those little things like these cottages, fields & walls combined with its charming residents that make it so magical & memorable to me….
