Description
Ballyness Bay, Falcarragh overlooking Magheroarty Sand Dunes with ‘Tory Island‘ in the far distance, County Donegal, Ireland
On the final stretch of road to ‘Ballyness Bay’ can be found this scene which overlooks many islands & strands along Donegal’s northern shore. Ireland has many stunning roads & viewpoints but there’s something special about the road to ‘Ballyness Bay’ that strikes excitement in me during approach. It’s possibly because there‘s so many locations, details & views that can be observed from one small area. There’s always a sea breeze here which carries the most memorable sounds & smells, especially on warm summer days.
These sheep are proudly watching over Ballyness Bay & trust me, this place really does need all the guardians it can get! Because unfortunately as we speak this pristine scenery is at great risk of being spoilt! Oyster harvesting co-operations are trying their best to lay their wire cages all across the shallows of this bay. These rusty cages are dirty eye sores that have completely ruined the surrounding views of every location they have been placed across our Irish shores. There is currently a “Save Ballyness Bay” campaign running to try & keep these oyster harvesting firms away. Please visit their page to see for yourselves. Save Ballyness Bay
I just don’t understand how the ‘greed of man’ would prioritise over one of Ireland’s most pristine bays? I pray the campaign is successful & Ballyness remains like this forever ?
